My car is dead! QQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQ
Honestly, we've never had any problems with my car since we bought it back in '02, but we have noticed over the past few years it just doesn't like to start when it's cold out. We thought maybe it was time for a new battery. It was starting really slowly today, so Matt let it run for a little while. Did I mention it's super cold out? There's like.. ice on my sidewalk.
Anyway, after a few minutes. MY CAR STARTS SMOKING >:O
Crap.
Now it won't start at all. It's Matt's work week, and we've got to go take it somewhere to figure out WTF is wrong with it, but since it won't start, we need to get it towed first.
And I gotta go pick up a rental. woot XP |

| Post-holiday kitchen purge... start! |

At this point, I can safely say the holidays are over for me. The house made it through in one piece, and I surprised myself with the ammount of cleaning I was able to do before and during having so many guests. It was a lot of fun, but now I'm ready for one last cleaning push and a little creative cooking to get rid of leftovers.
I realized today that we're pretty much out of clean forks, so dishes are a major priority.
The inventory of holiday food still sticking around is pretty amazing, but I have plans for most of it.
Leftover christmas ham is going into a few things:
Cheesy scalloped potatoes with ham
Ham/potato/egg/cheese scramble
sandwiches (ham& grilled cheese melt, ham& cheese with tomatoes and lettuce and crap.. etcetc)
I feel that is a satisfactory conclusion for ham.
New year's beef roast:
Beef pot pie!
We've already made french-dip sandwiches from some of the leftovers, and it was aweosme. My brother abandoned his claim on the leftover chunk of roast he was going to take home, so I plan on cubing a ton of it and making a beef pot pie from scratch. After making a turkey one, I feel really good about making a beef one.
Cookies! (Oh god!)
Mom somehow weasled out of taking a huge tin of my no-bake coconut balls, so I will be working my way through those. The treats she left up here are mostly gone. I've used a lot of self control and a lot of the chocolates are still here! Matt feels that someone was stingy with the fudge this year, so we battled a bit to see who would get the third piece XD He won. :X The other hand made truffles are awesome, and we've been working our way through those.
I unfortunately had to toss a bunch of the cookies I made with Tania. They were starting to get... weird....
Plus, I weighed myself and I totally gained like 5 lbs this past month XP I'm getting a workout partner back next Tues, though, so I'm excited about that. Matt is going to lift with me!
So between all the leftovers and cookies and whatnot, I've been looking towards a major kitchen purge sometime this week to eliminate temptations as I kick the diet back into gear. I took a rather generous fitness vacation over the holidays, but if I want to look awesome in July, I need to get back to work. It's really hard thinking about going back to watching things carefully, but I remember how easy it seemed when I got rolling. I just need to get started up again. |

| Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" |

Now! With 30% more zombies!
 It took me a while, but I finally picked up my own copy of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies for my own library. I've wanted it for a while. I even bought a copy of Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters as a part of a wedding gift this past fall but did not own any of these fabulous new genre books myself.
When I saw this new edition though - fancy faux leather binding and cover embellishments - I had to pick it up. I flipped through it and discovered that there was now full color illustrations as well. SOLD! I needed to own this. It wasn't until I got home that I even realized that there was in fact even more content to this book, with a few more zombies added to the fancy edition (as is right and proper for fancy editions of any books to have.)
I just started to read this, so I can't judge the whole thing, but I like what I've read so far. The author - Seth Grahame-Smith - added something to every page of Jane Austen's original. The opening line though was perfect:
"It is a truth universally acknowledged that a zombie in possession of brains must be in want of more brains."
Yes, Lizzy. Yes they are.
And your honed ninja skills will take them all down.

A pleasent wrap-up to a very pleasent year!
Well had a nice white christmas with snow. Many nice things and plenty of great food occured (kielbasa for breakfast xmas morning! YUMMY) Scarlett turned 10 on Christmas. She's still just as lovable! Many nice visits with friends. More wonderful food.
Decided in October things were getting hectic and I needed to sort out and kinda refresh my surroundings. So I have been in a semi constant state of cleaning. Well after christmas the mess of being semi clean really began to bother me so now I'm doing the year end/begining and spring cleaning. its time. I have all sorts of stuff I just need to get rid of. maybe all this motivation will stay and I'll continue to be motivated to do more.
In addition to cleaning my surroundings I am trying to get back in shape. I'm getting chunky again and just not feeling good. I started with some dog walking but that wasn't cutting it. Now I'm trying some belly dancing. Hopefully it turns out well. I have hope. In relation I am trying to cook more. I bought ingredients to make a new year meal at a friends place for us but then never heard back from them. oops. Ohh well nothing is terribly perishible so not too big a loss. instead I'll use it to make lunches for the week. I hope I can keep this up. I was going to use that Alli stuff too but after reading through my mom's starter pack it doesn't sound like I'm quite overweight enough to use it. claims I am in the normal range... sadly i don't feel normal. So I figured might as well follow the advice on meal portions and such. Gah I hope it works!
My other resolution/goal is finish my costume projects! All of them! I want them all to be done!

While it hasn't been the best for some, we had a good year at my house.
The quick & dirty version of 2009:
~Lots of travel (San Antonio, Denver, Dallas, Austin, many multiple times)
~New roof on the house, new breaker box& power supply to the house, new grill, new sprinkler system. All in all, a very busy year for home repair!
~Got to see a lot of family over the holidays, which is rare
~I start carrying an epi-pen when I find that I am fatally allergic to Kiwi, Salmon, and pretty much all other fish
~I lose 30 lbs, keep 25 of it off, and improve my general health
~Matt and I celebrate 10 years of enjoying each other's company, being retardely happy together, etc.. whatever you want to call it. We still love each other very much. (6th wedding anniversary)
~First facial prosthetic in a costume. lawl
~Probably the first year I've sewn more for other people than for myself!
I had to renew our domain again. I renewed for 3 years this time instead of two. Paper-wings.org will continue to be around for a long, long time, even if I do drop out of the hobby completely. My approach to costuming keeps evolving, though, so I don't see myself quitting, even if I tire of cosplay in general. I'll be at A-kon this year (as much as I love to hate A-kon) just to see Seikima II. Inugami Circus Dan will also be there, as well as a third musical guest they have not announced yet. It doesn't matter though. I have my badges and hotel lined up so I can see Seikima II. Holy crap. It's going to be awesome.
I'm still entertaining. People keep coming and going, and my fridge is filled with so many leftovers, it's amazing. I plan to hit the weights and the diet hard again as soon as I reclaim my house and my fridge. It'll probably be mid-Jan. This isn't a new year's resolution. I don't really do those. It's just a promise to myself that I will try my best to continue what I started last year. Even if I take a 3 month "break", as long as I can continue to keep this weight off and keep going in the direction I want to be, maybe I can look as good as I want to look when I go to vegas for my dirty 30 :X
In a week or two, I'll be solidifying travel plans for that, as well. While Matt's work schedule may be up in the air, we can try to make sure vacation time is sorted, hotel& airfare is sorted out, etc. |
